Randomly found photo reminded me that I actively cycle for 20 years ! 4th May 2014 marks 20 years since the day when there was in the Hall of sports in Kranj a promotional show for the first visit of Giro d’Italia in Slovenia. A few days after the show i did, with a mountain bike I bought with popular moneycash compensation, cycle with others involved in the organisation of Giro in Slovenia all the way from Rateče (Italian border in NW of Slovenia) to Nova Gorica (Slovenia SW border). It was about 220 km and I found that .. cycling is a great fun !
Whole story started when my company Studio OREH, as sponsors Sava Cycling Club, got a chance to participate actively in the organization of the first arrival of 77th Giro d’Italia in Slovenia ( 11th and 12th stage , 5 to 6 June 1994) . We have taken graphic design, all print, all promotional materials and appearances, press conferences , manufacture and installation of promotional posters along the route , graphic design and preparation of the accompanying vehicles and many more. Then my company was only 5 years old , we had 5 employees and all this work has been a major challenge , greta learning and pleasure . I can honestly say that I have successfully done ” faculty for event organisation”.
In general, it was apparent that the organisation was by old skilful men like Jelko Kacin, Francis Hvasti , Beno Hvala, Tomo Levovnik and a number of team assistants. Me and Boris were Slovenian contact to Italian team for placeing start equipment of 12.Stage. You can’t see this teams in officila show presentations of Giro. The teams are divided into two separate groups. One sets only the Finish place, the other sets the start place. First team (Finish place of the 11th Stage) came very early and decorated the driveway with banners and set the Finish space . After closing ceremony they immediately started cleaning the and already around 22.00 went on . Right behind them the Start team began mounting place for Start of 12 Stage and by morning everything was ready. One would shurely ask: “What the hell the Slovenian organisation tema did whole time?” The answer is short – everything else !
My main experience in working as a memeber of organisational committee was, that it is very important the composition of the technical team that is the absolute law – pyramid responsibility and that this applies military regime . Forever I’ll remember the last sentence of Franc Hvasti who gave it to us at the closing meeting of the organizing committee . He said : ” Tomorrow, let each of you do his job , but if you notice that something else is not as it should be, IMMEDIATELY do everything to solve it without thinking about who is to blame ! ” . This guidance leeds me nowdays in the organization of the event as Rekretaur is.
